Editorial illustration of a ship beside a harbour, not an actual sailing or a shark sighting
Contents

Bukangi, the shark reported in Busan’s North Port, has drawn attention to the waterfront behind Busan Station. The city’s 2 October report provides the background, but this is not a current shark-sighting report. Plan a harbour walk and a meal in Choryang as the core of the day, with Nampo-dong as an extension if your train or accommodation plans leave enough time.

Treat the news as inspiration, not a sighting promise

North Port works well for an arrival or departure day because your itinerary stays anchored to the main railway station. You can give the waterfront proper time without immediately adding a long cross-city journey to another beach district.

A wild animal’s movements, rescue activity and temporary access controls do not follow a tourism timetable. An old video does not establish a current viewing spot. Check city and on-site management notices before visiting, and build a day that still works if the relevant waterfront section is closed or Bukangi is not visible.

Distinguish the harbour side from Choryang

North Port is on the sea side of Busan Station; Choryang’s streets and hillside are on the other side. Do not assume that both outings start from the same exit or form one uninterrupted waterfront path. The diagram covers the station, waterfront and Choryang only. It does not include Nampo-dong or show exact crossings and gradients.

A short visit starts with your luggage

Before walking to the harbour, decide where your bags will stay. Check whether your accommodation can hold them or whether station storage is available. Do not build a tight itinerary around a locker that you have not secured.

As an editorial planning allowance, give the waterfront 60–90 minutes and a meal with a break in Choryang around 90 minutes. Add time for moving through the station area and returning, bringing the local outing to roughly 3–4 hours. Actual access routes, queues and your walking pace can change this substantially.

Choose a type of meal before choosing a particular business: a rice-and-soup lunch or dumplings, for example. Compare seating, waiting time and current hours. A long detour for an extra restaurant can undo the convenience of a station-based trip. No restaurant tasting or current menu-price verification is claimed here.

Make the hillside an optional addition

Choryang Ibagu-gil is different from a flat station-area stroll. The 168 Stairs district involves a hillside, so avoid treating the whole route as an easy extension with a suitcase or pushchair. You can have a meal in Choryang without committing to the uphill walk.

Dong-gu’s current tourism information describes the mobility facility as the Choryang 168 Stairs Skyway inclined lift. Older articles referring to the former monorail may no longer describe the current facility. Check operation notices if you intend to rely on it, and choose a return route that works for your group.

Extend the day towards Nampo-dong

If you have a late train or are staying overnight, consider Line 1 from Busan Station towards Nampo Station. This extension uses local transport; it does not assume you will walk the full distance from the port. Choose a market-area stroll or dinner as the purpose of the second stop.

Allow roughly 5–6 hours locally for the combined outing as a planning starting point. Avoid automatically adding Yongdusan Park, Jagalchi and Gukje Market in full. Pick one area, then work backwards from your departure time, including the journey back to Busan Station and collecting your bags.

Keep the waterfront flexible

Rain, wind and access restrictions can change the harbour part of the day. If conditions are poor, shorten or omit it and keep the meal and an indoor break. Do not reuse temporary holiday closure times from an old report as the park’s current regular hours.

An illustrative budget excluding intercity trains and accommodation is ₩15,000 for a meal, ₩6,000 for a drink and ₩9,000 for local transport and contingency, totalling ₩30,000. Adding an assumed ₩15,000 dinner makes it ₩45,000. These are planning inputs, not confirmed fares or menu prices; add storage and taxi costs as needed.

Official background and local facility information checked on 8 October 2026, KST. The ship in the cover is symbolic; the itinerary does not include a cruise ticket.

Frequently asked questions

Will I see Bukangi if I go now?

The shark’s current location and viewing conditions have not been verified. Plan the trip around North Port and the old town, rather than a guaranteed sighting.

Does visiting Choryang require climbing the 168 Stairs?

No hillside extension is included in the basic meal-and-waterfront plan. Check your actual street route and access needs separately.

Is this suitable for a few hours between trains?

Use the shorter North Port and Choryang plan only if it leaves a comfortable station buffer. Nampo-dong is an optional extension, not a requirement.

Summary

Use the Bukangi news as inspiration for a North Port walk and a Choryang meal. The shark’s current location and viewing conditions are unverified, so adapt to access notices. Keep the hillside and Nampo-dong optional, and work backwards from your return train with time to collect luggage.
